About

Jenine Evans is an emerging pianist and experienced piano teacher from Ottawa, Canada. Jenine earned a Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano Performance in 2024 under the tutelage of Francis Perron and Liz Upchurch at the University of Montreal. She also studied opera repertoire with Robin Wheeler, and chamber music with Jean-Eudes Vaillancourt. Between Jenine’s Master’s studies and accompaniment at the École LUMI, she learned the nuances of playing with every type of instrument from strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and voice!

In 2021, Jenine completed her Bachelor’s of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Ottawa. She studied solo piano with Leopoldo Erice and Mauro Bertoli, and collaborative piano with Julien LeBlanc and Frédéric Lacroix. Jenine was awarded the Gaston Héon Undergraduate Merit Scholarship in Music during her undergraduate studies.

Jenine has refined her musicianship by taking part in several summer training programs. In both 2022 and 2023, she attended the Barachois Summer Music Academy Emerging Artist Program in Moncton, New Brunswick. The program focused on repertoire for voice and piano by Canadian and under-represented composers. Jenine was coached by pianists, Julien LeBlanc and Laura Loewen, as well as sopranos, Nathalie Paulin and Monica Whicher. The program concluded with a performance tour in the East Coast. Jenine performed with vocalists in New Brunswick cities: Barachois, St. John, and Fredericton; as well as, Prince Edward Island's capital, Charlottetown.

In 2019, Jenine traveled to Europe to take part in masterclasses with Roberto Plano. She studied solo piano music in preparation for performances in Rovinj, Croatia and Bardonecchia, Italy.

From 2018 to 2020, Jenine played an important role in the launch of the University of Ottawa’s Musicians’ Wellness Centre (now part of the University of Ottawa’s Music and Health Research Institute). As a co-creator and administrator, she helped bring education, research, and clinical care to musicians in Ottawa.

In 2017, Jenine was introduced to playing the organ thanks to the Royal Canadian College of Organists’ Beginning Organ Student Scholarship.

Since 2015, Jenine has performed in several concerts with the Ottawa Pops Orchestra as a keyboardist and percussionist. Her most memorable performance was in 2018 when she played as the soloist in Joe Hisaishi’s “One Summer’s Day” for piano and orchestra.

Jenine is passionate about sharing her love and knowledge of music. She teaches a wide range of ages and levels, in English and in French. She has taught one-on-one in her private studio and in schools, as well as groups in a summer camp setting. As a piano teacher, Jenine fosters a strong work ethic, good ergonomics and technique, and a lifelong passion for music. She has a well-rounded approach in terms of the content of her teaching, and her teaching style. Jenine always ensures her students have a variety of accessible music, and she finds a balance of discipline and humor in her instruction. Jenine adapts her lessons to each student’s needs and interests, and encourages them to reach their potential with effective practice strategies, several opportunities to perform in recitals and festivals, and exploring ensemble music through duet-playing.

Lately, Jenine has been enjoying teaching privately from her home studio, giving masterclasses for a colleague's studio, performing piano duet repertoire, assisting University of Ottawa undergraduate voice students in rehearsals, and deepening her knowledge of diction and languages.

Jenine looks forward to a long and fulfilling career in teaching and piano accompaniment!
